Although competition as a school team technically ended with the State Championship meet, a group from the Monarch High School Cross Country team took a trip down to Arizona as the Louisville XC Club to compete at the Nike Regional meet for the southwest region on November 21. The meet marked the end of a stellar cross country career at MHS for seniors Alden Gruidel, Jensen Avey, Daisy Fuchs, Emily Hoffmann, Riley Sorbo, and Ben Hogan.
The meet was highlighted by Isaac Green’s fourth place finish time of 14:55 for the 5k in the Championship Boys’ Race, which qualified him for an exciting trip to the Nike National Meet in Oregon on December 5.
In the Championship Girls’ Race, Audrey Lookner led the team to an 18th place finish with her 50th place time of 18:48. Daisy Fuchs, Liz Hogan, Brooke Forsythe, and Alden Gruidel closed out the scoring for the team. Emily Hoffmann and Hailey Leader also competed in the championship race.
In the Open Boys’ Race, Ben Hogan led the team to a 5th place finish in the Open A Race with his 13th place time of 16:07. Zach Litoff, Isaac Russo, Greg Hibl, and Jack Herrmann finished out the scoring for MHS, followed by Declan Stone-Murphy. Riley Sorbo was the first finisher for the Open B Race with his 215th place time of 17:35. Chris Lyders, Tyler Waters, and Mitch Waters followed suit.
In the Open Girls’ Race, Sam Wexler led the team to a 15th place finish with her 63rd place time of 19:52. Abby Hein, Katy Kilcoyne, Libby Moore, and Maddie Johnson finished out the scoring for the team, followed by Jensen Avey. Many of the girls in the open race ran best times for the season.
