Principal Jerry Anderson Announces Departure

On Wednesday, February 22nd, Dr. Jerry Anderson shared her decision to leave Monarch for a  new position as the Principal of Homewood-Flossmoor High School in the Chicago area for the 2017-2018 school year. On behalf of the PTSO, we would like to thank her for contributions to Monarch over the last nine years and wish her well in her new endeavor.

BVSD ONLINE COURSES FOR SPRING 2017 TERM

  • Credit Recovery Session 2 Registration- Open through March 10th.
    • Only students that have previously taken the course and earned a F or a D are eligible to take credit recovery courses. Credit recovery courses are open for 4 weeks with no extensions.
    • Courses run March 15th through April 28th.
      • No late registration accepted

SUMMER SCHOOL ON-CAMPUS COURSES

UPCOMING COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES 

SENIORS: Many colleges have upcoming application deadlines in March- plan ahead! Be sure to check your schools’ websites in order to determine your deadlines. Order your transcripts at least a week in advance and request letters of recommendation a month in advance. Remember, if you order paper transcripts you must pick them up and send them.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

FAFSA went live on October 1st and seniors/parents NEED to submit it as soon as possible for consideration for many financial aid opportunities as well as many scholarships.

REMEMBER: You must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you want to apply for federal and state financial aid for college. Many colleges and universities, especially public institutions, also require the FAFSA. Complete your FAFSA here.  (This is the official FREE application through the government).

SAT COLORADO STATE TEST

Remember, ALL JUNIORS in the state of Colorado will take the SAT on April 11th.  This test is free and students DO NOT register online. These test results will be posted on a student’s transcript.

Information about prep classes can be found on the Counseling Department’s website, in the Counseling Office, and online through Community Connections (A Student Resource Guide) here.

Information about pre-registration will be provided at a later time.

PSAT 10

Reminder, ALL SOPHOMORES in the state of Colorado will take the PSAT 10 on April 12th. This test is free and students DO NOT register online.  Information about pre-registration will be provided at a later time.

SOPHOMORE COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT

Sophomore Class Students and Parents:

It’s time to start thinking about planning for college.  Please keep an eye out for information about Sophomore College Planning Night which is tentatively planned for March 21st at 6:30 pm. Topics covered during this night event will include:

– College Planning Timeline

– Making the Most of College Fairs

– Review of Naviance and how to use it for College Search and Planning

– And more!

Parents, students and staff are all welcome to attend this interactive evening. Come learn directly from other Monarch students about how your student can land a great job this summer. How about a Summer in Europe?

ADOLESCO YOUTH EXCHANGE is a flexible and affordable not-for-profit program of 3-week to 3-month language immersion and cultural family-to-family exchanges for kids between the ages of 9 and 18 to learn French in France, German in Germany or Spanish in Spain. The program is open to qualifying students in Colorado and the US.
