PTSO Thanks You for a Great Year!

Hello parents,

It seems like only last week we were welcoming you all to a new school year and now here we are writing the last President’s letter of 2016-17.

First, we’d like to say congratulations to the Class of 2017! What an exciting time of life it is to be a student saying goodbye to their primary years of school and entering their future. Best of luck to all of you as you pursue your passions.

We would like to thank our talented and hard working PTSO board! Our board has volunteered many hours to serve the Monarch High School community. We have been fortunate to work alongside each of them as they use their talents to make a difference in our school.

Along with the two of us, we are fortunate to have the following board members returning to the Board  for the 2017-2018 school year.

  • Brenda Brown – Treasurer
  • Anita Harrington – Volunteer Coordinator
  • Michelle Gazarik – Staff Appreciation

Thank you as well to our outgoing board members, Robin Goldstein-Lincoln and Jochen Manning-Lebek, for their service. We very much appreciate your contributions and hope you to stay in touch!

We asked our community to join our board and you did! A special thank you to the new PTSO Board members who will officially join the board in the new school year:

  • Janelle Stanton – Newsletter/Website
  • Shawnie Hanson – Fundraising
  • Lorie Roch – Mini-Grants Coordinator

We are still looking for a couple volunteers to join the board, including a Secretary and Staff Appreciation Co-Chair, and would love to speak to you if you are interested.  Meetings are at school, with the Principal and/or Vice Principal and are limited to 90 minutes per month. Please send us an e-mail at the address listed below if you would like to learn more.

Also, thanks to Eric Moroye and Dr. Jerry Anderson for attending each and every board meeting to answer questions and provide us with insight and counsel.

Last, but not least, thank you to you, our Monarch High School parents, for helping to provide over $10,000 in financial support for our school. The teachers are truly appreciative of everything you do to make the school great and so is the PTSO.

Have a terrific summer!

2017-2018 Yearbook Senior Photo Information

CURRENT JUNIORS:  Class of 2017-2018 Senior Photos

It is the custom at Monarch for students to provide a senior photo to the yearbook.  Many students hire a professional photographer. (You may make your own decision about hiring a professional; any photographers advertising with the yearbook have agreed to offer two students in need a free photo session.) Some students have a friend or relative take their photo over the summer.

Photos will be due October 6, 2017.  All juniors will receive an envelope with photo and senior yearbook ad information about all the procedures and specifications for senior photos.  PLEASE READ THESE CAREFULLY.

If you hire a photographer, please make sure the photographer has the guidelines as well. We want you to have a photo that meets yearbook purposes and also makes you happy.

PTSO Donors Fund Variety of Great Mini Grant Projects

On behalf of the PTSO, we would like to thank all of our donors for their generosity this year. Every dollar donated goes directly to our school to support our students and staff.

In late April, the spring mini-grant committee met to disburse the remainder of our funds for the year. We received eighteen requests from teachers and staff for just over $10,000 in mini grants. With a budget of $6,000 for the Spring Semester Mini-Grants, the committee had to be make some difficult decisions.

In the end, a variety of great programs were funded including:

  • Breakout Boxes which merge literacy goals and technology for Science, Special Education, and World Languages.
  • iPods and Microphones to support Speaking and Listening Skills in Spanish, German and French Departments.
  • Spanish Books and Games for a more interactive, fun language curriculum.
  • Publishing costs for the Writer’s Society Literary Magazine.
  • Lighting Enhancements and Technology Support for the Science Department.
  • Digital Lab Stations for Art, Art History, and Science Classrooms.
  • A Sensory Space for Special Education students.
  • An American Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course for the Adaptive PE Program.

Thanks again for providing the extras that make Monarch such an exceptional school for our students.
