Dear MoHi parents and students,
Welcome to the 2015-16 school year! Summer has been fast and fleeting and now it’s time to gear up for another year filled with all the amazing experiences high school brings. If you’re not familiar PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization) is a parent organization developed to bridge the gap between home and school. We act as advocates for school related issues, we help fundraise for needs that go above and beyond the district budget, we inform parents by holding topical meetings on subjects that we feel families want to know about Monarch itself or education related themes and we empower students to hold leadership positions within the school.
If you have a freshman or if you’re a new family, I want to warmly welcome you to Monarch HS. My family was new here only two short years ago so I can relate to the uneasy, confused, “deer in a headlights” feelings you may be encountering. The high school is a big place with a lot going on. Wading through all the opportunity can sometimes feel overwhelming. After we arrived, I sometimes wished I had a “concierge” to help guide me, please consider the PTSO that place to go to help you find anything you need.
In the spirit of new students, our first PTSO meeting of the year will be a “Get to Know Monarch” meeting. We will be going over what to expect throughout the school year and we’ll even touch on what to expect out of the next four years of high school in general. We’ll tell you about some clubs and organizations that you may not know exist, we’ll discuss National Honor Society, post-grad center, volunteer opportunities and hear from our principals.
Each month PTSO puts out a newsletter that promotes students, events and news around Monarch. You will receive an email containing our newsletter each month. We also have a comprehensive website where you can go to stay up to date on many things happening around the school, go to www.monarchptso.org.
