Does your student love writing, taking photos, and being involved at Monarch High School? If any of these appeal to your student, Monarch Publications is for them! The Publications class produces the Mosaic yearbook, the Howler newspaper, and the website, MHSHowler.com. As a reporter or editor, your student will have the chance to cover sports, entertainment, news, culture, or really anything that appeals to them over the various publications.
Publications is both a class and an extracurricular activity; it’s a great way to get involved at Monarch. It’s possible to be on the publications staff and still be involved in other sports and clubs. As an upperclassman, there are a variety of editorships and leadership opportunities in a range of areas including sports writing, opinions, design, and financial management.
Students who work on the newspaper or yearbook, on average, get better grades, higher ACT scores, and better grades as college freshmen according to a Newspaper Association for America (NAA) 2008 study. As a member of the publications staff, your student will improve his or her writing and speaking skills as well as get more involved in all aspects of the Monarch community. So, what are you waiting for?
