FAFSA and CSS Applications Opened October 1st

This is a reminder that the applications for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Financial Aid) and the CSS Profile opened on Saturday, October 1st. The FAFSA application can be found here.

In order to electronically sign and submit your FAFSA, both the student and their parent(s) will need to obtain a FSA ID number. The Counseling Staff recommends getting your FSA ID number prior to starting the FAFSA. Much of the information for your FAFSA will populate from the information submitted for your FSA ID.

The tab to get an FSA ID is found on the same page as the FAFSA. If you need assistance completing your FAFSA, College Goal Colorado will be hosting workshops on Sunday, November 13th from 1 pm to 3 pm at various locations. The locations will be posted soon on their website here.

The CSS Profile is also required by some schools. You can access information on how to complete the Profile at this link. A comprehensive list of the schools that require the CSS profile can also be found on this page.

Best of luck to all seniors as you continue to apply to colleges and for financial aid!

Out of State College Fair was a Success

Boulder Valley School District high school counselors and the Colorado Council on High School and College Relations held the Out of State College Fair at Monarch High School on September 28th.  The Powerpoint from the Financial Aid Presentation can be found on the Monarch High School Counseling Website or by clicking here.

Coffee with the Counselors

Coffee with the Counselors will take place twice in October.  These events will be held in the Monarch High School Post Grad Center ALL DAY and provide an opportunity for Seniors to get answers to their questions about the college application process.  Seniors should come in during lunch or during an off period.  Students will have an opportunity to ask questions on topics such as how to order transcripts or request letters of recommendation, how to begin the scholarship search, find a college fit, use Naviance in the college search in the application process, etc.  Dates are October 7th and October 28th.

ICAP Lessons

Monarch Counselors will be going into 9th through 11th grade classrooms over the next two months to talk with students about their ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan) and help them update their plan. Students will learn about ICAP  and the incredible tools available at their disposal through Naviance.

According to the CDE: The intent of the ICAP policy is to ultimately decrease dropout rates and increase graduation rates by assisting students in developing and maintaining a personalized post-secondary plan that ensures readiness for post-secondary and workforce success. An ICAP should be designed to assist a student and his or her parent or legal guardian in exploring the career and educational opportunities available to the student, align course work and curriculum, apply to post-secondary education institutions, secure financial aid, and ultimately enter the workforce.

Students who are identified as talented and gifted will be completing their Advanced Learning Plan requirements through ICAP.

We will work with students to develop a 4 year plan, complete interest and career inventories, and explore career and college options. Students and parents can access Naviance through the counseling website.  Parents/Guardians can obtain log in information by contacting their assigned counselor or calling the counseling office at 720-561-5634.
