Sweet Spot Cafe Donates $185 to Monarch PTSO!

The Monarch High PTSO sends a big SHOUT OUT to the Sweet Spot Cafe at the Coal Creek Golf Course!  We raised $185 during our dedicated fundraising day on November 9th. Thank you to all Monarch families and staff who came over and ordered dine in and take out. You helped make a **big** difference. The awesome owners of Sweet Spot generously donated 20% of the sales whenever Monarch was mentioned.

Monarch PTSO has a goal to raise $18,000 per school year which goes back into the classrooms through our mini-grant program for teachers. If just each family donated $10 per student, we could reach our goal!

Donations via check or PayPal are welcome all year by visiting the PTSO website here and clicking on the yellow Paypal button on the right side or by sending your donation to: Monarch PTSO 329 Campus Drive, Louisville, CO 80027.

If you would like to get involved with the PTSO as a donor, volunteer or to learn more about the mini-grant program, please contact either one of us at the e-mail below.

ICAP Lessons

Monarch Counselors visited 9th through 11th grade classrooms in October and November to talk with students about ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan) and help them update their plan. Students learned about ICAP and the incredible tools available at their disposal through Naviance and Infinite Campus.

According to the CDE: The intent of the ICAP is to ultimately decrease dropout rates and increase graduation rates by assisting students in developing and maintaining a personalized post-secondary plan that ensures readiness for post-secondary and workforce success. An ICAP should be designed to assist a student and his or her parent or legal guardian in exploring the post-secondary career and educational opportunities available to the student, aligning course work and curriculum, applying to post-secondary education institutions, securing financial aid and ultimately entering the workforce.

We worked with students to develop a 4 year plan, complete interest and career inventories, and explore career and college options. Students and parents can access Naviance through the Counseling Website.  Parents/Guardians can obtain log in information by contacting their assigned counselor or calling the Counseling Office at 720-561-5634.

In small classes, students follow a sequence of courses that provide hands-on technical skills and academic knowledge needed to prepare for an immediate career and/or further education. CTE is a state certified Designated Area Vocational School and offers many state-approved vocational secondary programs. Certifications in CTE programs may be earned after course completions ranging from one semester to two years. CTE students with transcripted certifications are eligible to apply for articulation credit at Front Range Community College.

Help! PTSO Year to Date Donations are Down.

Our donations are down over 50% this year – oh no! If every family donated just $10 per student, we could meet our goal to fund $18,000 in mini-grants for Monarch High School teachers and staff.

In December, we will hold the first of two mini-grant proposal reviews for the year. We don’t want to have to slash funding for our teachers and their grant requests. Below are a few of the requests that we were able to fund last year. We would expect similar, although slightly different, grant requests this year.

  • Library books to continue to encourage all levels of reading
  • World language learning tools to prepare for the AP exam
  • Documentary DVDs to teach history lessons
  • Health and fitness equipment or training to increase movement and activity
  • Math technology to improve learning
  • Supplies for safety and enhanced learning in the sciences
  • Music and theater equipment to help replace aging audio-visual systems
  • and much more!

Visit our website here and click on the PayPal button to donate today! Another option is to mail a check to Monarch PTSO, 329 Campus Drive, Louisville, CO 80027. Donor forms with our Tax ID can be found here.

Your tax deductible donations are welcome all year long and you will be automatically entered to win one of our monthly prizes. We truly appreciate your support!

PTSO General Meeting/Student Panel Discussion: Helping Freshman (& Parents) Get Ready for Finals!

Date: Wednesday, November 30th

Time: 7 PM – 8 PM

Location: Monarch High School Library

The Monarch PTSO, with support from the Parent Engagement Network, is hosting an event designed to help students, particularly freshman, prepare for their first week of finals. This is free of charge! Parents, guardians, students, and staff are all welcome to attend!

Our panel will be comprised of 5-6 upperclass students who have successfully navigated finals week in high school. You, as an audience member, will be able to interact with the students in a Q & A format with the goal of having a lively discussion about how students can succeed during a stressful week.

This event will represent the first of two events and also serve as the PTSO’s General Meeting for the 1st semester of 2016-17 school year. The second event will be held in the Spring (theme is TBD).

Questions? Please email president@monarchptso.org or visit our event on Facebook here.  We look forward to seeing you at the event!
